Our design for a community pavilion responded to the increase in use of urban public parks. We wanted to create a shelter for socially distanced meet ups, outdoor classes and a viewing platform to offer different perspectives. The pavilion is deeply connected to the landscape, playfully rising out of the earth and ramps up to create a viewing platform, a yoga deck, and a learning space. We worked with Fora to unpick the history of their new acquired art deco building and discovered the building was originally built to house the then flamboyant garment industry of the 1930’s. Using this context, we created a design narrative that threaded together the building’s vibrant fashion making past with Fora’s modern day approach to tailored workspaces. Each detail, texture, pattern and furniture piece has been carefully considered to balance boldness with calm, vibrancy with elegance and workplace with wellbeing - to create a work space that is as unique as the people who use it. Following the selection Southwark Studios, we proceed to scheme design, helping OMG transition from their old office to a new home while maintaining their much loved eclectic look and feel. Through the feasibility and design process, we identified a new type of ‘flex’ workspace to suit the activities of the TV production company - a space that could be used for formal meetings, informal script readings or just bookable quite work time.
